PROJECTS
Finghin Collins has been Artistic Director since 2006 of the New Ross Piano Festival, which he co-founded with the committee of Music for New Ross and which takes place each September in the small town of New Ross in the south-east of Ireland. St Mary’s Church, perched high over the town, is the principal venue for the concerts and has a wonderfully clear acoustic.
Since 2013, Finghin has been Artistic Director of Music for Galway, the supreme platform for musical excellence in the west of Ireland. He programmes and oversees a wide-ranging annual calendar of events including an international concert season, a lunchtime series and a Midwinter Festival dedicated to a specific theme. An additional project is Cellissimo, a new international cello festival, taking place for the first time in person in 2024, with a strong focus on sustainability and climate action. It is hoped that Cellissimo will be a triennial event.
In 2023 Finghin was appointed Artistic Director of the Dublin International Piano Competition, succeeding his former teacher and mentor John O’Conor, who co-founded the DIPC in 1987. Finghin will chair the international jury of this event in May 2025 and has brought new innovations to the Competition including the addition of a chamber music element in the semi-final round.
